"DEEP STATE" is a tightly connected body of work made between April and October of 2020 and are part of David Taylor's ongoing exploration into the implications of single tasking. Working from a reducted material pallet Taylor uses repetition and the movement of scale to as tools in a process who's aim is to achieve total absorption, to become deeply focused. DEEP STATE is a response to turbulent times in which a new skill sets have been acquired, we calculate proximity, we balance our feed. Taylors studio is his panic room and the work presented here could arguably be seen as a bi-product, the residual objects of his time spent there.”

45/150/250/310X20X 50cm struck from a single brushed aluminum profile. This bench is at once a magnet for the eye, exhibiting the strict, machine-like aspect of an aluminium profile it’s made from and it’s organic reaction to being shaped into a functional object.

a large format wall mounted object 280cm x160cm made of folded oxidized aluminum sheet. Repetition and asymmetry arranged to project a form of harmony from a kind of turbulence.

a large format wall mounted object 240cm x160cm made of safety glass and ”stucco” aluminium sheet. A strange dysfunctional mirror where distance from the surface impacts the quality of the reflected image. A slightly trippy dualism is experienced as the viewer nears the piece, their reflection becoming less sharp the black safety glass and more defined in the aluminum sheet.

wall mounted digital clock, its large format, 120X100cm creates an immediate focal point, the hypnotic pulsing as the passage of time is recorded and the suggestion of a crucifix in its form.
